Obituary of David R. Larson

David Robert Larson, age 81, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016. He was the best friend and husband of Ruth (nee Bender) for nearly 61 years. Dave was the loving father of Robert (Jo Marie Thompson) Larson, Michael (Linda Schwartz) Larson, Leslie (Chuck) Hurst and Ellyn (Robert Pit) Larson and the proud grandpa of Eric David Hurst. He is also survived by brothers Richard (Carolyn) Larson, Ralph (Beverly) Larson and Kenneth (the late Barbara) Larson as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dave was a resident of Country Club Hills for fifty-seven years and had a long history of civic and community involvement, including serving as Alderman for twelve years and Mayor from 1979-1987. He was also active with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, Rotary, United Way and South Suburban PADS and most recently was a Docent at The Field Museum in Chicago. Dave wa an active member of United Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1960 and served in many positions of leadership. Dave was a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology with a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He retired in 1995 from Sargent & Lundy Engineers in Chicago after working for many years as a Project Manager for electric power projects both in the U.S. and overseas. A memorial service and celebration of Dave's life is planned for 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at United Christian Church, 4351 W. 180th St., Country Club Hills.
