Dear Nancy,
I saw Joe at the Brotherhood of the Barrel party in Florida last year. He had a great time with his fellow brothers. We spoke for sometime. We talked about the loss of our child and how much we miss them. We would talk about we hoe that some the day we will be united with them again. I believe he is with Shannon and will for all eternity and live in the spirit of peace and love.
May you find comfort of peace with the love of family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
God bless,
Bunny Butler

My sympathy to the Murphy family. Joe is a man who touched the lives of so many. He will be remembered for his ability to bring a smile to my face through his story telling and jokes. He was a genuinely lovable guy, and was blessed to be surrounded by a loving family and so many friends. He seemed to truly enjoy life, and shared that joy with all he met along life's journey.

I've had some good times with Joe in his yard. He was such a good guy, always a wealth of information and very funny. He thought highly of all his children and told me how much he loved them all. He and Nancy were fun during parties @ my brother Matt's house. Their yards are basically connected. I remember we'd sit by the fire and he showed us how fires burn different colors with different elements..that was awesome. He loved seeing all the kids running around, playing with each other. God Bless him and his family. I'm sure he will be sorely missed. I know it will be strange to not see him sit there in the yard anymore. RIP Joe and thank you sir for your service as a CHICAGO FIREMAN!

Fair well my friend...may the heavens be filled with an endless amount of "new crowds" for you to tell your jokes!!! My kids and I have been so blessed and touched to have shared many happy days with you. You introduced me to your wonderful family and friends and I want to thank you for that. Fairfield avenue won't be the same without you, even though you only moved "right over the fence"!!!!
