Obituary of Minerva Gonzalez de Ordoñez

Minerva Gonzalez de Ordoñez, 91, of Blue Island, passed from this life on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Minerva was born on April 22, 1933, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to the late José Gonzalez and the late Catalina Escamilla. She was the beloved wife of the late Cesareo Ordoñez Saldivar who passed away in 2001.  They were united in marriage for over 50 years.  Minerva is the beloved mother of the late Arturo C. (Annette), Dagoberto, Patricia M., Norma A., Sandra L. (John S. “E-Scott”) Schade.  She is the cherished grandmother to Michael Lee, Augustine A., Angelica A., Alicia A., Amanda A., Brianna, Zachary D., Anthony D., Vanessa M., Melissa M., David A., Arnie J., Karmyna R., Karas A., the late Michael Joseph and Alexander R.  Minerva is a proud great-grandmother to 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Pilar, Pepa, Laura, Jose and Yolanda.  Minerva is the loving aunt to “Joey” Gonzalez. She leaves many other friends and dear family members to cherish her memory.

Minerva dedicated 37 years to Party Cookies in Blue Island, where she was a manager.  She played an instrumental role in helping Party Cookies transition to Parco Foods (also in Blue Island) when they expanded their food offerings.  Her work ethic earned her the respect and admiration of her coworkers and superiors, culminating in a successful and fulfilling retirement. Minerva also played an active role in her community. She assisted Cesareo Ordoñez, the president of the Latin American Society, offering her time to support and uplift others.

Visitation for Minerva will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue Island. Chapel prayers will begin Friday at 9:15 am at the Krueger Funeral Home, then to St. Benedict Church/St. Mary Magdalene Parish, 2339 York St., Blue Island for mass at 10:00 am.  Cremation is private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or to the Leukemia& Lymphoma Society.

Minerva leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, kindness, and devotion, and her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
