In Memory of our dear Sister in the Lord, Phyllis L. Murphy
Sister Phyllis L. Murphy, our sister-in-the Lord, was a gentle, faithful, God-serving member of this fellowship at Pullman Christian Reformed Church, just around the corner from her home.
For many years, she and her loving husband, Wilfred, faithfully brought her grandchildren with them to worship services and church programs.
Phyllis was a quietly passionate woman and an inspiration to many. She was a member of many groups, including the Adult Sunday School, where her attendance was flawless until health kept her away. Her carefully slow reading of Scriptural passages often opened new and truthful insight, as it emerged from her soul and voice.
She was a joyful participant in Fellowship Sisters, where she could be herself among friends whom she loved, sharing food, fellowship, and faith.
Phyllis was a long time faithful member of the Coffee Break Women’s Bible Study. She often came early to enjoy the fellowship time of coffee, goodies, and chatting with friends. Her insightful comments and observations were greatly appreciated during the discussions.
For a few years Phyllis came to the church on Friday mornings with her friend, Betty Rather, to fold bulletins and help prepare materials for Sunday morning, demonstrating a spirit of lovingkindness.
When her health waned and she no longer attended services and meetings, many of us lost contact with her, but she remained in our hearts.
Though we missed her from our presence for too many years already, now that her absence from us is permanent, a new gap opens and recalls the words of Apostle Paul from another context: Though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I delight in … how firm your faith in Christ is. Colossians 2:5
We at Pullman Christian Reformed Church send our condolence to the family of Phyllis L. Murphy and commend her to the loving arms of Almighty God, her Savior and Lord.
Signed,
Pastor Gary Foster
