A kinder mortal person has never walked the face of the earth. I met Mel as a Kiwanian. He always had a smile, a kind word, an impish laugh and an optimistic outlook - especially during the past 5 years. There had to be days that he was really tired, discouraged and frightened, but he never showed those understandable feelings. Instead, he remained constantly busy helping others, especially children, through his membership in his Church, Blue Island Kiwanis and other local philanthropic organizations. Truly one of a kind. He will be remembered, and he will be missed. God bless and look after Mel.

Mel will be deeply missed, his positive attitude and acceptance of the challenges of life serve as a great example for all of us. As a Blue Island Kiwanis member Mel was instrumental in helping raise funds for multiple projects that helped children. As a Kiwanian the projects Mel was engaged in will have an impact well into the future.

I will always remember Mel as a kind and good hearted soul who took time out of his day to play a little ball with the neighbors kids. He never failed to smile and share a word or two. Years later I had the pleasure of working with Mel in Blue Island. His surprise at seeing me grown was genuine. We enjoyed many laughs.. After he retired, I would still see Mel and we would still chat. He is a holds a cherished spot in my memories. Prayers for his family during their time of grief.
