Obituary of Shirley Ruth Erfft
Shirley Ruth Erfft, age 80, passed away December 28, 2016 after having complications from heart surgery at Mercy Hospital in Springfield MO.
Shirley was born Shirley Ruth Saurer on February 7, 1936 in Divernon, IL. Not long after, she moved with her parents Violet and Carl Saurer to Burbank, then Mt. Greenwood (Chicago) IL. She went to Blue Island Community High School and graduated 1954. It was there that she meet Robert (Bob) Erfft Sr. They were High School sweethearts and were married July 2, 1955. They were married for 49 years, until Bob preceded her in death on October 8, 2004.
She was a homemaker, Cub Scout Den Mother, active in PTA and she reported on the Untouchables for the Blue Island Sun Standard. She loved to cook and was always trying new recipes. Her true passion were her hobbies. She started with miniatures and quickly became an expert miniature dollhouse maker. She wrote a book 'Little Things Mean A Lot', published in 1982, about hand making your own miniatures. When Bob retired from Clark Oil in 1995, they moved to Springfield MO so he could fish and hunt. It was there that she became an avid scrape booker and was in the Red Hat Society.
She was a loving mother to their 3 children, Robert Jr (Jeanne), Randy (Sandy) and Kelly (Art Dyke). She loved all her grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave Brown), Courtney, Robert III, Thomas, Christopher, Matt and Jacob Dyke. Her sense of humor and quick wit were her trademark. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and and anyone who knew her.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, January 5th from 3-9pm at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 S Greenwood Ave in Blue Island, IL. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 6th at 11am at the Mausoleum Chapel in Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery in Oak Lawn, IL.
