Hal and I enjoyed many sessions of playing music together. He was an excellent performer of every genre, but jazz was his favorite. Although he and I had maintained sporadic contact, we hadn't done so for at least two years.

So sorry to hear of Hal's passing. He was a wonderful man, a terrific printer and was kind to all he met. Always good for a laugh too.
May he rest in peace. Thank you for all the design work you sent my company over the years and for always being so nice.

May the music of the angels be the sweet sounds that you hear
As you're rocked in Heaven's cradle may you never shed another tear
May your spirit soar in freedom from the pain that gripped you tight
May be find the peace you searched for as you tossed and turned each night
May your tortured mind be clear and strong and your tender heart be warm
May you have no need tor strength now as there will never be another storm
I'll wear your memory proudly…RIP my brother and my friend
Sending my love to heaven above….until we meet again

While searching for Hal Beattie on Facebook, I found that he had passed away and a subsequent search on Google led me here. I'm terribly sorry to hear he had passed away. I was the soundman for a couple of bands that Hal played in, Goliath and Jackal, back in 1971 and a few years after. I still have promo shots I took of Goliath (and thus Hal) and would be glad to share them.
Hal was a fantastic trombone player, the consummate performer and had a fantastic sense of humor (you pretty much had to have that in Chicago bands). I truly loved working with him and wish I had remembered to look him up many, many years ago.
