Joyce had a heart as big as God's Great Outdoors, always putting others before herself. Joyce sensed the needs of our students and tended to them. She was a great role model for our students and staff. Those of us who knew Joyce learned from her example
because she was always true to herself. It was an honor to know and work with Joyce.

Joyce was a great friend, co-worker, listener,. She frequently called Marlene Talaski who died this past May, her calls made Marlene feel good as she proceeded with the end of life. Now they both enjoy eternal life together.

Our Mom
Our mom, Joyce was indeed an angel on this earth. She thought only of others, never herself. She was kind, gentle, patient, and had a sweet calm disposition. People flocked to her and confided in her and she always made everything all right. She always had time to listen, brightened the lives of all who knew her, and made friends everywhere she went. She never raised her voice, nor said a bad word about anyone. She was a gracious role model to all.
Though she faced numerous health challenges, she never complained, but kept a positive outlook. Her resilient strong spirit and faith kept her going. Her favorite saying was, “This too shall pass.” She was extremely intelligent and fiercely independent, her home immaculate, still driving, cooking, and fully living life.
Mom loved to shop, cook, and spend time with her family and friends. She and Grama Vi were inseparable. She spent many cherished years raising her children, grandchildren, and beloved pets. She loved us all unconditionally; we were perfect in her eyes. She was our biggest cheerleader. She was always there when we needed her, and helped with her time, talent, and warmth. She was happiest and in her element when we all gathered together for family dinners and holidays. She said I, Joan was her favorite daughter, and Steve was her favorite son. We were her only ones, so we had to be her favorite! That joke never got old, but she meant it with all her heart. We were so very blessed and fortunate to have her as our mom, and grandma, and always told her so. She was elated to welcome Steve’s fiancée, Sandy into our family and thrilled with the news that Daniella and Sam would soon be welcoming a little one. We were all very close, saw mom several times a week, and spoke every day on the phone. Our visits always ended with a big hug, kiss, and “I love you”, plus a goody bag of treats, magazines, and neat, thoughtful gifts!
She was a lifelong resident of Blue Island, longtime parishioner of St. Benedict Church/St. Mary Magdalene Parish, and a teacher’s aide and administrative assistant at Blue Island School District 130 for over 30 years. She was loved and will be dearly missed by her family and innumerable friends. Fly with the angels, mom. You are home with dad, and all your loved ones.
Love you forever. ♥

Joyce was a true friend who always was positive. We met when we worked together at School District 130. Joyce was a mainstay in the administrative office. When I think of her, I see her smile. I see her at District 130. I seen her during and after mass (with her mom!) at St.Benedict Church and on Highland Avenue where she lived. Our community was a better place because of Joyce Walling. I always will be grateful for her contributions and her character.

Dear Family and Friends,
Joyce was truly a caring and thoughtful person. I had the honor of working with Joyce in School District 130. She was always willing to listen and help others in her calm way. Even though we no longer worked together, every year Joyce would reach out to wish a happy birthday. Despite all her final health challenges, I can still hear her say, “It’s okay.” I am forever grateful for having known her wonderful soul. May her family and friends be at peace with the memories of her kindness.
Sincerely,
Karen Gordon

To the family and friends of Joyce...
Please accept my condolences...So sad to hear of Joyce's passing. We worked together at Nathan Hale Middle School back in 1979 and a few years after. It was my first year teaching and she was one of two para-professionals assigned to our sixth grade staff. Joyce was always so kind, considerate, caring, and nurturing with both staff and students. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile to share with others. It was a pleasure to know her both professionally and personally.
So cherish the memories and take solace in knowing that Joyce will always be with each and every one us. Just smile and think of the great times had with such a delightful person.
May God grant her peace and serenity for all time.
