Obituary of Norman H. Gorny

Norman H. Gorny, a veteran of the Korean War and resident of Blue Island, passed away peacefully at his home on June 18, 2024 at the age of ninety-two.

Norman is the cherished friend of Sharon L. Whitlow whom he shared his life with for the last forty-one years. He is survived by his children Linda Wilson, Ricky, Robbie (Therese) and the late Randy N.   Norman is the devoted grandfather of Brad Wilson, Randy (Jessica), Eric, Patrick (Jina), Connor and Meghan (Cameron).  He is the proud great grandfather of Alex (Jamie) McMullen, Caitlin Wallace, Austin, Ethan and Ryah Wilson.  Norman is the great great grandfather to Damian and Scarlett McMullen.  He is the loving brother of Laverne LaPerna.

Norman was born on June 10, 1932 to the late Sylvia nee Razmus and Henry Gorny.  He grew up in South Chicago.  Norman was a decorated Army Veteran.  He served in the Korean War where he was a Sergeant Army Cook and a Rifle Sharp Shooter.  The U.S. Army recognized Norman for his honorable service with a Korean Service Ribbon, a United Nations Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.

After returning from the war, Norman spent his career as a Rock Island brakeman and conductor for the Metra trains.  He was a train enthusiast.  In his spare time, Norman loved hosting pool parties, gardening and camping.  He was also an avid fisherman.

Visitation for Norman will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 9:00 am until the time of funeral service at 12:00 pm at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue Island.  Cremation will be private.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
