Leona Ordaz nee Valencia, 84, formerly of Blue Island, passed peacefully in the comfort of her home on June 18, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.


Leona was born March 5, 1939 in Dixmoor, Illinois to the late Jacinto and Angeline Valencia. She is the beloved wife of Rudolph Ordaz. The couple have been united in marriage for fifty-six years. Leona is the loving mother of Kevin Ordaz, Lisa Kowalczyk and Robert (Karla Rudy) Ordaz. She is the cherished grandmother of Gianna (Victor Chihuaque) Ordaz, Lorenzo Ordaz, Nina Kowalczyk and Jacob Kowalczyk. Leona is the dear sister of the late Josephine (late William) Schroeder, the late Francis (late Donna) Valencia, Lawrence (Sandy) Valencia, Sam Valencia and Marguerite (late Robert) Wicherek. Leona leaves behind many other family members, friends and lives she touched to cherish her memory.


Leona was employed by St. Francis Hospital as a nurse for forty-two years. Leona was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion. Her passion for helping others gained her many valued friendships throughout the years.


Leona loved cooking, baking, growing flowers/plants of all kinds, sewing, knitting, traveling and most of all spending time with her cherished grandchildren.


Her legacy will most certainly impact her grandchildren and generations to come.


Visitation for Leona will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Chapel prayers will begin Saturday at 9:15 am at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 S. Greenwood Ave., Blue Island, then to St. Benedict Church/St. Mary Magdalene Parish, 2339 York St., Blue Island for mass at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood.
