Kristy Zakhar-Roberts of Chesterton, Indiana, formerly of Blue Island, Illinois, passed from this life on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the age of 44.

Kristy is the beloved wife of Michael and the treasured mother of Molly, Michael and Vincent. She is the precious daughter of Robert and Antoinette Zakhar and of the late Pamela (Robert) Bartle. Kristy is the loving sister of Katie (Skip), Robert Jr. (Gina), Jenna (Jared), Ashley, Taylor, Maria, Grant, Emily, Ian and brother of her heart Michael Martinez. She is the dear daughter-in-law of Christine and David Roberts and adored sister-in-law of Wes and Katie Roberts. She is the ultimate “Auntie Kristy” to so many nieces and nephews. Kristy leaves numerous other family members and friends to cherish her memory.

Kristy was born June 23, 1978 in Blue Island. She attended St. Isidore Grade School and Mother McAuley High School. It was during these years that she developed lifelong friendships.

Kristy's world revolved around her family, she was the true matriarch, putting the needs of her family first. Kristy was completely involved in all aspects of her children's lives and earned the title of "Super Sports Mom!"

One of the many ways Kristy's love for children was displayed was through her teaching career at Westchester Intermediate School in Chesterton IN. Kristy was genuine, passionate, and naturally left a lasting impression on all those she touched. She was committed in going above and beyond to help those around her and did it all with pure love. Love was her language.

Kristy will be remembered as the one person who could not only light up a room but soon have everyone following her contagious laughter. Her smile will continue to shine in all the hearts she leaves behind. She was the light and love of our family and we "love you infinity."

A memorial fund has been established to support Kristy’s children Molly, Michael, and Vincent in their education and athletic endeavors.
