Obituary of Salvador Castillo Duenas

Born in Asientos, Aguascalientes, on Nov 15, 1933 to María Concepción Dueñas and José Emigdio Castillo; he is the 3rd child of 13. His younger years he lived in Estancia de Ánimas, Zacatecas. On October 31, 1959 he married Maria Cruz Frausto in Loreto, Zacatecas, where he established his home. As a young man, he worked the fields in central Mexico; later as a migrant worker he had the opportunity to work in the fields in the south, north of the border. He lived his working years travelling between Blue Island, IL and Loreto, Zac. In Illinois, he worked on the railroads and then as a general laborer in the automotive industry in the early 60’s; finally settling with his family in Blue Island in the mid 1970’s. He taught his children and grandchildren to love his culture and his traditions - he loved his fields of corn, alfalfa and cacti; he loved mole, atole and hot chocolate… and he loved horses, his boots and cowboy hat. He found pleasure in spending time with his brothers and brothers-in-law playing cards or planning summer family picnics on the Lake Michigan shores or at a nearby forest preserve. He loved many things; but, most importantly he loved his numerous family. Salvador Castillo will be remembered as a polite, hardworking man who was peaceful but approachable with a playful sense of humor. He created an amazing life, which his wife, children and grandchildren are grateful for and will continue to build upon. We are thankful for his life, for his teachings… for his love. He did not leave us; he will never leave us. 

 

Nació en Asientos, Aguascalientes, el 15 de noviembre de 1933; sus padres fueron María Concepción Dueñas y José Emigdio Castillo; fue el tercero de 13 hijos. Su juventud la vivió en Estancia de Ánimas, Zacatecas. El 31 de octubre de 1959 se casó con María Cruz Frausto en Loreto, Zacatecas, donde estableció su hogar. De joven trabajó en los campos en la zona central de México; luego como trabajador migrante tuvo oportunidad de laborar en el Norte, en los campos del sur. Vivió sus años de trabajo viajando entre Blue Island, IL y Loreto, Zac. En Illinois trabajó en los ferrocarriles y luego como obrero general en la industria automotriz a principios de los años 60; finalmente estableciéndose con su familia en Blue Island a mediados de la década de 1970. Enseñó a sus hijos y nietos a amar su cultura y sus tradiciones - amaba sus campos de maíz, alfalfa y nopales; le gustaba el mole, el atole y el chocolate caliente… y apreciaba mucho los caballos, sus botas y su sombrero vaquero. Encontró placer en pasar tiempo con sus hermanos y cuñados jugando barajas, o en los veranos planeando paseos familiares en las orillas del lago Michigan o en los parques de bosques cercanos. Amaba muchas cosas, pero lo más importante es que amaba a su numerosa familia. A Salvador Castillo se le recordará como un hombre de buenos modales, trabajador, pacífico pero muy accesible y con un sentido de humor algo juguetón. Logró formar una vida admirable, una vida que su esposa, sus hijos y nietos reciben con gratitud; una vida que continuarán construyendo. Estamos felizmente agradecidos por su vida, por sus enseñanzas… por su amor. Él no nos deja; él nunca nos dejará.

Visitation for Salvador will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Chapel prayers will begin Wednesday at 9:00 am at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 S. Greenwood Ave., Blue Island, then to St. Mary Magdalene Church (formerly St. Benedict Church) 2339 York St., Blue Island, for mass at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at St. Casimir Cemetery.
