Obituary of Joe Anthony Higgins

Joe Anthony Higgins, SR. was born September 8, 1952, to Frankie McDuffie and Charlie “Ike” Higgins Sr in Little Rock, Arkansas. Joe attended Dwight D. Eisenhower High School and after high school, he joined the United States Army in 1971 and went off to the Vietnam War, where he received a purple heart for his dedication and honor to his country. Joe was a hard worker and worked for years at Travenol Laboratories. He also worked for the Robbins School District and then UPS, where he retired. Joe was known for his commitment and dedication. Joe accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and re-devoted his life to Christ and attended Robbins Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Robbins, IL, where he was a devoted member and worked tirelessly for the church until he moved to Douglasville, GA in 2019. On Thursday morning, January 20, 2022, the Angel of Silence came and winged the soul of Joe from this world of sickness, suffering and pain to a place of peace and eternal rest. Joe was preceded in death by his mother Frankie Mcduffie, father, Charlie Higgins Sr., brothers, Carl, Michael, Billie, and Charlie, sisters Loretta and Carla and granddaughter Jasmine Higgins and son-in-law, Gregory Lewis. Joe leaves to cherish his precious memory and celebrate his life, four daughters, Charmaine Lewis, Erika Higgins, Quinta Davis, and Tiersa Carter; two sons, Joe Anthony Higgins, JR, and Anthony Higgins; brother, Maurice Higgins; auntie Ruthie Tanner (Peaches) and stepdad, Lushion Lewis, nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and one great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation for Joe will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 3020 W. 143rd St., Blue Island. Cremation will be private.
