Obituary of Robert J. & Barbara J. Werniak Sr.

Robert J. and Barbara J. (nee Hallberg) Werniak Sr., passed from this life Wednesday, April 1, 2020. They were the beloved parents of Sue (Ron) Gassmere, Robert (Gina) Werniak Jr., John (Pam) Werniak, Jeff Werniak and the late Michael Werniak. They were the cherished grandparents of Theresa (Joel) Goodwin, Ronald Gassmere, Kyle, Holly, Dan, Amanda, Jeff, Andrew and Evan and the proud great grandparents of Ethan and Connor. Barbara was born January 7, 1940 in Blue Island to the late Viola (nee Fehrman) and Malford Hallberg. She was the loving sister of Kenneth (Undine) Hallberg and the late Butch (Millie) Hallberg. Robert was born August 4, 1938 in Blue Island to the late Helen Marie nee Mackey and Michael John Werniak. He was the dear brother of the late Michael Werniak. Bob and Barb were united in marriage for almost sixty years. The bond they shared was remarkable, you could witness their love through the smiles they shared with each other. They had a true respect and devotion to each other and together built a strong foundation for their family. Their family was everything to them, they loved nothing more than spending special time together. They stood united through both the happy times and the challenges life brings. Their home was warm and inviting, welcoming all who came to visit. Many of the neighborhood children could be found in their yard, knowing they would be watched over with care. Bob was the original owner of Bob's Auto, his first location being a Sinclair gas station on 127th & Western. Along with the full time job of raising a family, Barb also found time to help with the business. They were devoted to the Blue Island Community, supporting many of the local sports teams. Above all, they treated all their clients like family. Dropping off an auto for repair, often included a hug, small talk and a hot cup of coffee. Bob and Barb leave many family members and friends to cherish their memory. Their legacy will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved them and their stories will be told for generations to come. Interment services for Bob and Barb will be held privately at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood.
