Obituary of Karl S. Maerz

Karl Siegfried Maerz, 91, of Tinley Park, IL, formerly of Blue Island, IL, originally from Cunersdorf, Germany, passed peacefully from this life with his sons at his side on Monday, March 30, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Gertrude Maerz (Erdmann). Devoted father to the late Barbara Maerz, Karl B. married to late Dawn (Hicks), Michael married to Suzanne (Long) and the late John Maerz. Karl is the proud grandfather of Erich (fiancée Zoe Anderson), Elizabeth and Emelia. Son of late Karl and Johanna Maerz of Cunersdorf, Germany. Dear brother of late Ursula (Seidl) and Ilse. Karl was an exchange student in 1952 at Hamline University, St. Paul MN. Upon his return to Germany he made up his mind to become a US Citizen and was hired by Ford Motor company in 1955 allowing him to emigrate to the USA to Chicago, Illinois. In 1956 he married Gertrude and settled in Blue Island and had 4 children. Karl was a Tool and Die Maker at Ford Motor Company building jet engines at the Ford City site on South Cicero Ave. After 32 years of service at the age 71, Karl retired from Panduit Corp. located in Tinley Park, IL. Karl loved the outdoors and camping. He could be seen out in his garden almost every day. A private grave side service will be held at St, Benedict's Cemetery on Friday, April 3, 2020.
