Dennis M. Vail, age 76, of Chicago, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 2, 2026.

Dennis was born on June 26, 1950, in Blue Island to the late Gerard and the late Wanda Vail. He is the beloved husband of MaryBeth Ingberg, with whom he was united in marriage on August 15, 1996. Dennis is the cherished father of Wanda Sabina Vail (Zack White) and devoted stepfather of Paul Schweiker (Evelyn). He is the proud grandfather of Alexander and Zora, who brought him immeasurable joy. Dennis is a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sabina Cruz Vail; his brother, John Vail; and his sister, Margaret Vail Ciuzas. Dennis leaves behind many other loving family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and former students who will forever cherish his memory.

Dennis dedicated his professional life to educating children as an elementary school teacher with Chicago Public Schools. For more than 25 years, he taught at Langston Hughes School in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago, where he made a lasting impact on generations of students. He formed lifelong friendships with his fellow teachers and staff, maintaining those close relationships long after his retirement.

Outside the classroom, Dennis found his greatest peace on the water. An avid walleye fisherman, he enjoyed studying their habits, and he looked forward to trips to the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and Canada. Whether sharing stories of the day's catch or enjoying the quiet beauty of the wilderness, those moments reflected his patient, thoughtful nature and appreciation for the outdoors.

A Celebration of Dennis' Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 9815 S. Campbell Ave., Evergreen Park, IL. Cremation Private.
