Juan Vera, affectionately known as "Big Juan," age 65, of Ames, Iowa, passed away on June 24, 2026.

Juan was born on September 16, 1960, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Sandra and Samuel Vera. He spent his childhood growing up in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago, where he attended Esmond Elementary School, Barnard Elementary School, and Morgan Park High School.  Juan is the father of six children: Dante, Chante, lil Juan, Victor, Brandon, and his baby boy Antonio. He is the cherished grandfather to 16 grandchildren and the great grandfather to 1 great grandchild. Juan is the dear uncle of 7 nieces and 7 nephews, 33 great nieces and nephews, and 5 great great nieces and 1 great great nephew. He is the beloved brother of Maria, Michael, the late Theresa, the late Samuel, and his twin, the late Joaquin.  He was dearly loved by many and leaves behind countless extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A hardworking man throughout his life, Juan dedicated many years to his trade as a carpenter. He took great pride in providing for his family through his hard work and determination. While he was known for his strong work ethic, those who knew him best will also remember his larger-than-life personality. Big Juan had a way of bringing people together with his humor, storytelling, and infectious spirit. He loved spending time with family and friends, never missed an opportunity to celebrate life's special moments, and was often the life of the party. His generous heart and genuine love for those around him will be deeply missed.

Visitation for Big Juan will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Avenue, Blue Island. Donations to the family are greatly appreciated during this difficult time. Cremation will be private.
