Martha “Mitzi” Kissel (née Braccio), age 95, a longtime resident of Blue Island, passed away peacefully at home on April 29, 2026.

Martha was born on August 31, 1930.  She was the beloved wife of George A. Kissel, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1996. They were united in marriage on July 1, 1950.  Martha is the loving mother of the late George A. Kissel, Jr., the late Mark (the late Karen), the late Michael, Thomas (Ellen), and Mary (the late Arthur). She is the cherished grandmother of Nicole, Erin, Danielle, Victoria, Brittany, Thomas Jr., Patricia, Ashley, and Arthur Jr., the proud great-grandmother of 19, and great-great-grandmother of 1. Martha is the dear sister of Paulette and was preceded in death by her siblings Marshall (Betty Lou), Joseph (Lucille), Rosemary (Frank), and Betty Jean (Donald). She also leaves many other loving family members and friends to cherish her memory.

Martha was a woman of strong faith and deep devotion to her community. Over her life she was actively involved in St. Benedict Parish, including the Women’s Club, where she formed lasting friendships and gave generously of her time. She found great joy in supporting her family, especially driving her children and grandchildren to basketball games—moments she treasured for the conversations they shared along the way. Martha also enjoyed coaching girls’ softball, taking pride in helping young players grow both in the sport and as teammates - memories her family will cherish always.

Visitation for Martha will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue Island. Interment will follow at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood, Illinois.
