Juana C. Esparza, age 90, longtime resident of Blue Island, passed from this life on February 28, 2026.

Born on November 4, 1935, in Estancia de Animas, Zacatecas, Mexico, Juana carried with her the strong traditions of her Mexican heritage throughout her life.

Juana was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Senorino Esparza, and her dear son, Renato. She is the cherished mother of Marcolina Brenecki; Hildegarda Reyes (Roberto); Monico (Lucha); Francisco (Lyn); and Maria Candelaria Esparza Castillo (Humberto). Juana is the treasured grandmother of Lucia Francis (Joseph), Sasha Brenecki, Michael, Monico Jr., Sam, Xavier Reyes, David Reyes (Evelyn), Israel Martinez (Lourdes), Gabriel, and the late Hugo Natanael Martinez and the proud great-grandmother of Xander Zane, Joseph Robert Francis, Beverly Iona Francis, and Santiago Noe Martinez. Juana is also a loving sister to many and a dear aunt to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

Juana dedicated many years of service as a custodian for School District 130 before her retirement. She took great pride in her work. A devoted parishioner and volunteer at St. Benedict Church, Juana faithfully served her church community for many years. She generously gave her time at the food pantry and was a familiar and welcoming presence at the annual Lenten fish fries. Her faith guided her actions and inspired her kindness and compassion.

Visitation for Juana will be held on Thursday, March 5th, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Avenue. Chapel prayers will begin Friday, March 6th at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by procession to St. Benedict Church/St. Mary Magdalene Parish, 2339 York Street, Blue Island, for Holy Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Benedict Cemetery, Crestwood.
