William “Bill” E. Laging, 79, of Blue Island, passed from this life on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Bill was born on February 8, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William and the late Lois Laging. He is the beloved husband of Janice Elaine Laging (née Fritsch). They were united in marriage on December 21, 1968, sharing over five decades of love, partnership, and family.

Bill is the devoted father of Nicole, Todd (Jennifer), and the late Melissa. He is the cherished grandfather of Alyssa, Christian Laging-Suarez, Hunter, and Logan Lovato, and the proud great-grandfather—to Nikolai Martinez, Beau Laging-Suarez, and Leo Laging-Suarez. Bill was known affectionately as “Boppa” to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a name that reflected the love and closeness he shared with each of them. He is survived by many other dear family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Bill was known by many nicknames, including Billy and Grumpy, he was a man others could always count on.  He was always the first to lend a helping hand. Bill especially loved golfing with his son, as well as fishing and hunting with his son and grandchildren—moments that created lasting memories for his family. Bill also treasured time spent traveling with his family and created many fond memories on family trips, especially those to Chimney Rock and Myrtle Beach, which held a special place in his heart.

A proud veteran, Bill served in the United States Navy, completing three tours in Vietnam. He remained active in the veteran community as a member of Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter #153.

Memorial visitation for Bill will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Avenue, Blue Island, with a memorial service beginning at 6:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bill’s memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
