Refugia “Ruth” Delgado, age 97, of Calumet Park, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026.
Refugia was the beloved wife of the late Albert Delgado. She is the devoted and loving mother to Albert (Amy), Adrian (Esleen), the late Alan, and Liza (Michael) Dore. Refugia is the cherished grandmother of David Martinez, Krista (Sergio), Ruth (Juan Carlos), Ava Dore, and Zara Dore, and the proud great-grandmother of Ainoah. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Antonia (Leo) Pinto and Jack (Ana) Garces. Refugia leaves many other dear family members and friends to cherish her memory.
Refugia was an extremely active and faithful parishioner at Seven Holy Founders Church, where she was especially involved with the Women’s Club. Her faith guided her life of service and generosity. She was a long-time employee of Catholic Charities, where she found deep purpose in helping others and serving those in need. Refugia was also a strong and passionate supporter of fundraising efforts for student scholarships benefiting Latin Americans for America, believing strongly in the power of education and opportunity.
Chapel prayers will begin at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue Island, followed by procession to St. Benedict Church / St. Mary Magdalene Parish for Holy Mass at 10:00 AM, 2339 York St., Blue Island. Interment will follow at St. Benedict Cemetery, Crestwood.
