Rosa H. Serna (née Resendez), age 83, of Midlothian, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on December 24, 2025.

Born on November 13, 1942, in Mexico, Rosa was the beloved wife of the late Juan Serna. She was a devoted mother to Brenda Resendez, Sonia (Sergio) Quirarte, Silvia (Alberto) Diaz de Sandy, and the late Daniel Resendez. Rosa was a cherished grandmother to Francisco (Chucky/Jenny) Licea, Monica (James) Licea-Gonzales, Omar (Marissa Carrillo) Licea, and Marissa (Mark) Pedzimaz; Karina, Sergio, and Erika Quirarte; and Sergio (Karina Perez), Cristian, Ivan, and Mireya Diaz de Sandy. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Adrian, Frankie, Anthony (yay yay), Linda, Adeline, Zeke, Noel, Maglio, and the late Aubrie Licea; Anahiya, Avanni, Aiden, and Ariel Gonzales; Leilanni and Damion Licea; and Lukas and Jordi Diaz de Sandy. Rosa was the youngest of many siblings and a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Rosa’s life was filled with joy, laughter, and love. She had a passion for cooking, dancing, and shopping, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends. She enjoyed playing lotería and spending time with her best friend, Beti. Known for her delicious meals and homemade cakes, Rosa poured her heart into every dish she made. She loved family gatherings, trips to the mall, garage sales, flea markets, and visiting every grocery store in town—truly every single one.

A strong and independent woman, Rosa raised four children on her own. She was generous, compassionate, and always willing to help those in need. Rosa lived life to the fullest, and her greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother. Her witty charm, warm smile, and loving spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will always be remembered and cherished as our beloved “Ma.”

Visitation for Rosa H. Serna will be held Monday, December 29th from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Avenue, Blue Island.  The funeral chapel will open on Tuesday, December 30th at 9:00 AM, with the funeral service beginning at 10:30 AM, at Krueger Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Blue Island.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the family are greatly appreciated during this difficult time.
