David Matthews Obituary

David Matthews, 50, of Blue Island, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 14, 2025.


David was born on April 16, 1975, in Evergreen Park. He is the cherished son of Anna (nee Baran) Matthews and the late William Matthews.


David is the devoted and loving husband of Leila L. (nee Arreguin) Matthews. They were united in marriage for 20 wonderful years and built a life rooted in love, dedication, and family. He is the proud and devoted father to his children, David William and Liv Anjolie, who were the greatest joys of his life.


David is the cherished brother to Denise Phillips and Lisa (Chris) Jay. He is the loving uncle to Samantha Phillips, Kip Phillips, Andrew Jay, and Ryan Jay, and the proud great-uncle to Miles and Noah. David also leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.


David had a lifelong love of trains, finding joy in their history, design, and movement. He also had a deep appreciation for nature and animals, often finding peace outdoors and showing kindness and respect to every living creature he encountered. Above all, David will be remembered as a devoted family man who treasured every moment spent with those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
