Marjorie Harriett 'Margie' Rauch, formerly of Palos Heights and Blue Island, Illinois, passed away on November 17, 2025, at the age of 89.
The word 'love' truly describes Margie. As John 15:12 says, 'Love each other as I have loved you.' Margie gave love unconditionally and was always quick to return love, whether through words or actions, including a kiss. No conversation with her was complete without a heartfelt 'I love you,' often accompanied by 'I love you with my whole heart.' She also expressed gratitude regularly, perhaps more than anyone we knew, and always appreciated the little things—like receiving cards from family and friends, especially those with money, which she carefully tucked away in her wallet.
During her time at Villa Nursing Home, Margie became known as the warm and welcoming 'Greeter,' always ready to say 'hi' and ask how people were doing, bringing smiles to staff and visitors alike.
Margie loved simple pleasures, especially a cheeseburger, French fries, and a Diet Coke. As a child, she enjoyed riding her bike and was known for her impressive coordination. Whether hitting a baseball or kicking a football, Margie was always a key player on our neighborhood team. She also excelled at paddle ball, demonstrating precision and skill. Another of Margie’s gifts was her beautiful penmanship. She participated in the Special Olympics, competing in softball distance throwing.
Margie was born on March 9, 1936, to Arthur and Emma (Hunstock) Rauch in Blue Island, Illinois. She was the sister of Herbert (Grace), Raymond (Joan), Roy (Dorothy), Elmer, and Arthur Jr. whom preceded her in death. She was also especially close to her sisters, Bernice (Maurice) Barry and Lucille (Bob) Knirsch, both of whom preceded her in death. She lived with her loving sister Bernice, her main caretaker from age 16 until her 40s, when she went to Bethesda Lutheran Home. Margie was baptized and confirmed at Salem Evangelical Church in Blue Island.
Margie’s family included many nieces and nephews, and she was especially close to Jim (the late Debbie) Germany, Pat (the late Jerry) Landman, Judy Tuma, Tommy (Sheryl) Germany, Terry (Jolene) Germany and Nancy Knirsch Brewster. She was particularly close to her niece, Judy Tuma, who assisted in her care. She was a great aunt to many, especially Courtney Germany who spent time over the years with Margie while she was in a rehab/care facility, visiting, tending to her needs and sharing many funny stories of her ‘Margie’ time. Her great niece Carissa Robins, our cosmetologist, would visit, cut and style Margie’s hair.
Margie had a loving extended family, including Jackie Webb, and Nancy and Lisa, who became like family to her during her time at Bethesda and Villa. Jackie, in particular, showed her deep love and care for Margie by tending to her everyday needs and wants, including gifts. Jackie brought Lisa and Nancy to visit Margie and enjoy lunch often, including a box of Fannie May chocolates as a sweet touch.
Visitation for Margie will be held Saturday, November 22nd from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave, Blue Island. Interment will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery in Alsip, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Navarro Farm, Frankfort, IL.
