Bernard C. Kay, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025.

Bernard is the beloved father of Bernard William (Cathi), Michael, and the late Laura. He is the loving grandfather of Bernie Jr., Ashley (Jared) Dillingham, and Amanda. Bernard is the proud great grandfather of Bradley and Walker. He was preceded in death by his sibling William (the late May). Bernard is the fond uncle to Margaret (Anthony) Barbush, Benny, and Billy. He leaves many other dear family members and friends to cherish his memory.

Bernard was born December 10, 1932 in Chicago, IL to the late Benney and the late Margaret (née Douschine) Kay. He served as a dedicated detective with the Chicago Police Department for over 25 years. After retiring from the Police Department, he was a proud former resident of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Throughout his retirement Bernard remained active in his community as a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW, Upper Keys Sons and Daughters, St. Justin Martyr Church, St Peter Church and the Elks Lodge, where he enjoyed fellowship and giving back to others.

A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Incarnation Catholic Church, 5757 W 127th St, Crestwood, IL. A private interment of cremains will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
