
Obituary of Gretchen Selby
Gretchen Selby (née Machay), 78, of Bourbonnais, passed from this life Thursday, March 20, 2025.
Gretchen was born October 7, 1946 in Blue Island to the late George and the late La Verne Machay. She is the beloved wife of Ronnie. They have been united in marriage for fifty-nine years. Gretchen is the cherished mother of Randal Sr. (Julie) and Ronnie Jr. (Heidi). She is the proud grandmother of Randal Jr., Brandon, Shannon, and Jackson. Gretchen is the loving sister of George (Barb) Machay, Billy (the late Beverly) Machay, Gloria (the late John) Wheeler, Patsy (the late Bob) Weseloh, and Priscilla Machay. She is the dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Gretchen leaves many other friends and family members to cherish her memory.
Gretchen was the rock of her family—always steady, supportive, and full of love. Her presence was a constant source of strength. As the heart and soul of her family, Gretchen was the one they turned to in times of joy and sorrow. Her love was a steady foundation upon which her family built their lives. Family gatherings were her greatest joy, where her warmth and love made every occasion special. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds. Whether she had known someone for years or just met them, Gretchen always made people feel valued and cared for. Her nurturing spirit made her a beloved friend to all who knew her.
Gretchen was a woman of many passions. She enjoyed sewing, completing crossword puzzles, watching movies, and attending sporting events, where she cheered enthusiastically for her favorite teams. In her younger years, she was an avid golfer, a hobby that she cherished and enjoyed sharing with loved ones.
Visitation for Gretchen will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave, Blue Island. On Monday March 24, 2025 visitation for Gretchen will continue from 9:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 11:00 AM also at the Krueger Funeral Home, 13050 Greenwood Ave, Blue Island. Interment will follow at First Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Alsip. Donations in Gretchen’s memory can be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2253 120th St., Blue Island, IL 60406, a place that was dear to her heart.
