Alan M. Tomaska Obituary

Alan M. Tomaska, 69, of Blue Island, passed from this life Monday, March 10, 2025.

Alan was born August 20, 1955 in Blue Island to the late Josephine nee Oleksa and the late Andrew J. Tomaska. He was the loving brother of the late Andrew Tomaska, David (Lee Ann) Tomaska, and the late Joanne Somkovic. Alan was the dear uncle of David Tomaska Jr. and the late Adam Tomaska and the great uncle of Harley Tomaska.

One of his greatest loves was his time spent on Thatcher Island, where he returned each October to serve as a lighthouse keeper. For Alan, it wasn’t just a job—it was a way to connect with nature and preserve the rich history of the island that he cherished so deeply. In addition to his work at the lighthouse, Alan was known for his exceptional skills as a carpenter. His work was always done with precision and care.

Cremation will be private. The burial of his cremains at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
